action
PK is an alien stranded on earth. As soon as he is on earth, his amulet, which serves as a remote control for his spaceship, is stolen. Without clothes he goes in search of his amulet. He realizes that he needs clothes and steals some. He also realizes that he needs money to buy food. He communicates with facial expressions and gestures. He learns the language by holding human hands. After a short stay in the village, he is no longer a stranger. He is called PK because everyone thinks he's drunk. PK befriends the musician Bhairon Singh, who helps him to adapt to the circumstances on earth. Bhairon assumes that PK is longing for a woman and therefore takes him to the brothel. There he held a woman's hand for six hours and was now able to communicate.
PK tells Bhairon that his amulet was stolen from him. Bhairon advises him to look in Delhi, but in Delhi PK is only chased away by uncaring police officers. People tell him that God knows where his amulet is. Seeking God, PK now goes to temples, churches and mosques, but he is extremely confused because everyone has different ways of praying and different rules. PK cannot find God and starts handing out flyers asking about the divine differences. And so he meets the TV reporter Jagat "Jaggu" Janani, who saved him from being beaten up in a temple. Jaggu is shocked to hear that PK's amulet is now in the possession of her family teacher Sadhu Tapasvis. PK would like to get his amulet back by using his simple and clear questions. With the concept of PK 'wrong number' on the divine versus fake God men, Jaggu convinces her channel manager Cherry to produce a show in which PK competes against Tapasvi.
PK has now fallen in love with Jaggu, but cannot tell her. Her Pakistani friend Sarfaraz, whom she met in Belgium, left her standing in front of the altar. Meanwhile, Bhairon catches the thief who stole PK's amulet and takes him to Delhi, but both die in a bomb attack. The news shakes PK. Later on on the TV show, Tapasvi challenges PK to tell the real story about Sarfaraz in order to get his amulet back. He had predicted Jaggu that Sarfaraz would betray them. PK reveals how a false letter and non-religious differences separated Sarfaraz and Jaggu. During the TV show, Cherry calls the Pakistani Embassy and Jaggu and Sarfaraz make up. PK wins his amulet and is led by Jaggu to the desert where he landed. When he leaves, she realizes that he loves her. PK travels to his planet and she later writes a book on PK. She writes how much she misses him and how he gave her two great gifts - the love of her father and Sarfaraz. PK returns to Earth a year later with a new research team.
background
The film is a satire about "God and godmen", ie "God and God men". PK was released on December 19, 2014 and is the most successful Bollywood film of all time. It replaced the films 3 Idiots , Chennai Express , Dhoom: 3 and Happy New Year - Herzensdiebe by a large margin. There were arguments as PK allegedly ridiculed the Hindu religion . Violent Hindus protested and destroyed cinemas in many cities that were showing the film. The main Muslim actor, Aamir Khan, was attacked and subsequently commented that they accepted all faiths. Requests to censor and ban the film were rejected.

criticism
“[...] The audience also made a pilgrimage to the cinema: 'PK' advanced by a long way to become the most successful Bollywood film of all time with a worldwide box office of over 100 million dollars. Not only the theme and Irani's soulful, humorous staging have their share in this, but above all Aamir Khan. He is and remains a box-office magnet (almost all of the most successful films in recent years have had him as a star) and he always gives everything. Here he takes some getting used to with his childlike, naive game including wide-open eyes. But he is fully absorbed in this role and in the end you suffer with him and have fun with him. Yes, he even proves self-irony once more, for example when he is asked 'do everyone on your planet have such protruding ears?' [...] "
