Panagiotis Fyssas ( Greek Παναγιώτης Φύσσας ; born June 12, 1973 in Athens ) is a former Greek football player .
Fyssas started his career at the youth academy of Panionios Athens . In the 1990/91 season he made his debut in the men's professional squad for the first time. After seven years, he moved to Panathinaikos Athens in the summer of 1998 and, of all things, to the club against which he had won the Greek club cup just a few weeks earlier. At Panathinaikos, the left defender quickly developed into a regular player and made his debut in the Champions League for the first time in autumn 2000 . Thanks to his achievements, he also made a breakthrough in the Greek national team in this phase, which guaranteed him a regular place there in the period that followed. In his following years in Athens he was able to draw attention to himself in the domestic championship as well as internationally - but he was denied a title. In January 2004 Fyssas moved to Portugal to Benfica Lisbon , where he would not only stay for the next 18 months but also celebrate the greatest successes of his career. Besides the Cup win in 2004 and his first championship in 2005 managed Fyssas sensational with Greece , the 2004 European Football Championship to win.
From 2005 to 2007 Fyssas played for the Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian . This decision came as a surprise to many, as Fyssas also had a number of offers from the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga . In the summer of 2007 Fyssas moved back to Greece and ended his active career after a season with Panathinaikos Athens.
