Nikolaos Dabizas ( Greek Νικόλαος Νταμπίζας , born August 3, 1973 in Amynteo ) is a former Greek football player .

Career

society

Dabizas moved to the first team of Pontion Verias in the summer of 1991. He played a total of three seasons there before moving to Olympiacos Piraeus within Greece in July 1994. Here he played a total of four years in the top division Super League . In his first season with Piraeus, he also made his debut in international club football ( UEFA Cup 1994/95 ). In 1997 he became champion with Piraeus.

He first appeared in the UEFA Champions League in the 1997/98 season . He played five out of six group games. In the game on October 22, 1997, he scored his only goal in the competition in the 5-1 defeat by Real Madrid .

On January 1, 1998 Dabizas moved to the English Premier League for Newcastle United. In his first two years (1998 and 1999) he reached the FA Cup final with Newcastle .

After six years in January 2004, he moved to league rivals Leicester City. At the end of the season he rose with Leicester in the Football League Championship (2nd division). After the end of the 2004/05 season, Dabizas left Leicester City after a year and a half.

He returned to Greece for AE Larisa that summer, where he won the Greek Football Cup in 2007 and took part in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup the following season . After the qualifying rounds, AE Larisa met u in the group stage. a. to 1. FC Nürnberg and the eventual winner Zenit Saint Petersburg .

He played his last game as a professional in the 6-0 defeat against Olympiacos Piraeus on April 17, 2011, the 30th matchday.

National team

He made his debut in the senior national team on October 12, 1994 in the qualifying match for the 1996 European Football Championship against Finland .

Dabizas was part of the 23-man squad that won the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal , but remained without a mission. The last time he was in the squad was on September 8, 2004 in the 0-0 win against Turkey in the qualifying game for the 2006 World Cup , but was not used.
