Georgios Charalambous Georgiadis ( Greek Γιώργος Γεωργιάδης , born March 8, 1972 in Krinides , near Kavala , Greece ) is a former Greek football player .

career

Club career

Georgios Georgiadis began his professional career in 1990 with the North Greek traditional club Doxa Drama , based in Macedonia , where he was under contract until January 1993 and scored a total of 77 games and 17 goals. His next stop was Panathinaikos Athens . At the Athens club, Georgiadis played in the regular formation from his first season and made his debut in the European Cup competitions for the first time in 1993. At Panathinaikos Georgiadis, who came to 176 first division appearances and scored 60 goals, won two Greek championships (1995, 1996) and three times the cup . In 1996 he even made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with Panathinaikos , where they failed at Ajax Amsterdam .

In 1998 Georgiadis moved to Newcastle United in the English Premier League , but returned to Greece only a year later. In 1999 Georgiadis signed a contract with PAOK Thessaloniki , where he won the cup twice in the following years (2001, 2003) and came up with 105 appearances and 42 goals. In 2003 he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus . At his new club he was able to win the Greek double (2005) and made 44 games and 9 goals. In January 2007 Georgiadis returned to PAOK after a stint at Iraklis Thessaloniki , where he ended his career in the summer of 2008.

National team

Georgios Georgiadis, who plays in the right attacking midfield, has been an integral part of the Greek national team for years and won the 2004 European Championship in Portugal under Otto Rehhagel .

Coaching career

After his active career, Georgiadis first coached the Greek U-19 (2009-2010) and the Greek U-21 national team (2010-2012). He then worked at his previous club PAOK Thessaloniki, initially as sports director (2012–2012), later as assistant coach under Huub Stevens (2013–2014). Since then he has also repeatedly acted as an interim trainer (2013, 2014, 2015, 2015/16, 2016/17).
