Vasilios Tsiartas ( Greek Βασίλειος Τσιάρτας , born November 12, 1972 in Alexandria , Greece ) is a former Greek football player .
Life
The midfielder , who is 1.86 meters tall and weighs 75 kilograms, played for 1. FC Köln from 2004 to 2005 . His stations as a player were AEK Athens (2000-2004), FC Sevilla (1996-2000), AEK Athens (1993-1996), FC Naousa (1989-1993) and AE Alexandria (1987-19989).
"El Mago", as he was called in Spain, moved from AEK Athens to Cologne at the age of 32 because he was no longer offered a new contract with AEK. In his first year at 1. FC Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga , he scored his first goal on his debut. Due to injuries, however, he was only able to play four games in the 2004/05 season.
Vasilios Tsiartas made his debut in Greece's national team against Saudi Arabia in April 1994 and was European champion under coach Otto Rehhagel at the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal. He took along with the league players Ioannis Amanatidis from 1. FC Kaiserslautern at the Confederations Cup in 2005 in part. He played a total of 70 international matches for Greece, scoring 12 goals. Including the fastest goal by a national player in Europe to date (after 43 seconds). Tsiartas is also known for his very precise free kicks, for a while his free kicks were among the best in the world.
His contract with 1. FC Köln was not renewed for the 2005/06 season. Since October 2006 he has been under contract with the Greek second division team Ethnikos Piraeus. On February 14, 2007 he announced the end of his career.
He is married and has two children.
