Pankraz of Sinzenhofen
Pankraz von Sinzenhofen (* in the 15th or 16th century; † July 24, 1548 at Castle Wörth on the Danube ) was the 47th Bishop of Regensburg from 1538 to 1548 .
Johann III. followed by the dean and custodian Pankraz von Sinzenhofen. According to Josef Staber, a most unfortunate choice, since in the times of the Reformation , when the Protestant faith spread rapidly within the diocese, an upright advocate of the Catholic faith would have been necessary. As a doubt about the suitability of the bishop, Staber puts forward several arguments: Pankraz rewarded the cathedral capitulars who voted for him in an improper way ( simony ) with benefices . He had a son whom he had legitimized in 1541. Staber even describes him as “ mentally ill ” and shows this with twilight states that prevented the bishop from doing his work. Years before his death, he had a stroke and has had severe health problems since then. Communication with him was becoming increasingly difficult. Even if the Counter-Reformation was not noticeable in the Diocese of Regensburg, appropriate forces formed at the Council of Trent and in the ranks of the Jesuit Order .
Its epitaph shows the bishop in magnificent official costume and the episcopal insignia.
