history

Parey ramparts

In the district of Parey is the Parey castle wall , a Bronze Age and later Slavic castle wall , which indicates an early settlement of the place. Parey was first mentioned in a document in 1450. The place name suggests a Slavic local foundation, it means "settlement on the river" and refers to the location of the place on the Havel. The main source of income for the inhabitants of Parey was fishing, agriculture was little represented. In 1831 the old village church of Parey burned down, shortly afterwards the church was rebuilt. The tower was added in 1841, the bell from 1549 still comes from the previous building.

Since 1817 Parey belonged to the Westhavelland district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg . On July 25, 1952, the district was dissolved and from then on the community belonged to the Rathenow district in the GDR district of Potsdam . After reunification, the community was in the Rathenow district , and since December 6, 1993, the place has been part of the newly established Havelland district . On December 31, 2001, Parey merged with the communities of Gülpe, Spaatz, Strodehne and Wolsier to form the community of Havelaue .
