Passion and Warfare is an instrumental studio album by guitarist Steve Vai . It was released in 1990 by Epic Records and is assigned to both the instrumental rock and metal genres.

Emergence

The album was recorded in Steve Vai's studio "The Mothership", where he had previously recorded the guitar parts for the Whitesnake album Slip of the Tongue .

The album was awarded gold by the RIAA . Passion and Warfare is considered to be one of the most famous and most stylish albums of instrumental rock. It contains some of his most famous songs like Liberty , The Audience Is Listening, and For the Love of God . For the latter song, he fasted for 10 days and recorded the song in one take on the fourth day of the fast. For the Love of God was ranked 29th among the best guitar solos of all time in a Guitar World reader poll.

The track Blue Powder was recorded in 1986 for "Guitar Player Magazine" as a sound example for the Carvin's X-100B amplifier. Steve Vai uses his signature guitars Ibanez Jem and Ibanez Universe, the amplifiers Marshall JCM900, Carvin X-100B and ADA-MP-1 preamp, as well as the effects pedals Boss DS-1 and Eventide H3000 Harmonizer etc. on the album.
