Trivia

The album was recorded during the Sound Theories Vol. I & II world tour in Minneapolis . The 160-minute set list included new pieces and orchestrated pieces from Vai's catalog. The DVD was released with the same name.

The music website Allmusic awarded 3.5 stars out of 5 for the album. Allmusic critic Jason Lymangrover described Vai's performance as an emotional, flawless and otherworldly guitar playing .

The pre-order orders of CD and DVD as well as the first 400 Blu-ray orders received access to a free download of an additional album called Where the Other Wild Things Are , available as MP3 and WAV files. The bonus CD contains the songs that were released on the DVD, but not on the original CD.

The music website Allmusic also awarded 3.5 out of 5 stars for the bonus album. Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine found that it would have been better if all the material had been released as a double album, but it is still very good to have the entire work on CD . Musically, Erlewine rated the bonus album as high quality and saw it as Vai's highlight .
