The music website Allmusic awarded 3.5 stars out of 5 for the DVD. Allmusic critic Greg Prato found that Vai was more focused on posing than on playing. Mike Borrink from German metal magazine Rock Hard praised the DVD. His conclusion: “ Almost 150 minutes later, because of the sheer acoustic and optical highlights (even the switchable commentary track is extremely entertaining), you have forgotten your moderately difficult mouth lock and your bloody knees and press repeat, drooling as if in a trance. (...) "Live At The Astoria London" has become the expected blast! ".
