Patrick James "Pat" O'Connor (born October 9, 1928 in North Vernon , Indiana , † May 30, 1958 in Indianapolis , Indiana) was an American racing driver .
Career
Pat O'Connor competed in 36 Champ Car races in the USA between 1952 and 1958 , two of which he won. In 1956 he drove a Blough - Offenhauser to victory in Darlington , and a year later he did the same on the route from Trenton with a Kuzma - Offenhauser. He was at the start five times at the Indianapolis 500 , the highlight being reaching pole position in the 1957 race , which he finished eighth. In the 1958 race there was a collision on the first lap in which 14 of the 33 vehicles were involved. Pat O'Connor was fatally injured. Since the race was part of the Formula 1 World Championship from 1950 to 1960 , its statistics also include five Grand Prix starts.
