The Saimax 3200 (also: Pattje Saimax ) is a coaster type in Waterhuizen in Groningen nearby shipyard Pattje Waterhuizen.

history

The ship type was designed by the shipyard Patje Waterhuizen, which belongs to the Volharding Group, and the shipbuilding office Conoship International. The Leer- based shipping company Briese Schiffahrt , which later had three units built, was also involved in the development . The ships built for other shipping companies were also operated by Briese Schiffahrt.

The hulls of the ships were built at the Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries shipyard in Mangalia , Romania . The ships were completed and equipped at Volharding Shipyards in Eemshaven, the Netherlands . The deck superstructures were manufactured by Noord Nederlandse Staalbouw in Groningen, which is also part of the Volharding Group.

description

The ships of the type have Saimax dimensions in terms of length and width of the hull in order to be able to pass the locks of the Saimaa Canal , which connects the Gulf of Finland near Vyborg with the Saimaa near Lappeenranta . The maximum draft in the Saima Canal is 4.35 m. The ships can then load 2,270 t.

The drive of the vessels is carried out by a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine of the type Mak 6M25 with 1,800  kW power . The motor acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . A Stamford shaft generator with 240 kW output (300  kVA apparent power ) and two diesel generator sets, each consisting of a MAN D2866E diesel engine with 90 kW output, each of which drives a Stamford generator with 113 kVA apparent power, are available for power generation . A harbor and emergency generator of the same configuration was also installed. The ships are equipped with an electrically powered bow thruster with an output of 200 kW.

The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It consists of a total of five decks (including the engine room and bridge ). The ships have eight cabins for the ship's crew . Three officers' cabins are single cabins, as are four other cabins for the ship's crew, one cabin is a cabin for two crew members. A maximum of eight people can be accommodated in the cabins. In addition to the officers' cabins, some of the ships were also equipped with four cabins for two crew members and one single cabin, so that they can accommodate 12 people.

The hold is located in front of the superstructure . It is 56.25 m long, 10.20 m wide and 8.43 m high. The capacity is 4,740 m³. The cargo area is box-shaped over a length of 47.70 m. In the front and rear part it tapers slightly, in the front part to 5.95 m in length, in the rear part to 2.60 m in length. The room is closed with pontoon hatch covers that can be moved using a hatch trolley. The ships are equipped with two bulkheads that can be set up in six or seven positions. The bulkheads each consist of two panels and can also be used to form an intermediate deck in part of the hold . If the bulkheads are not required, they can be parked at the end of the hold.

The tank ceiling can be loaded with 14 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.6 t / m² and the intermediate deck with 2 t / m².

The ships are designed for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 132  TEU , of which 96 are in space and 36 on deck. If only 40-foot containers are loaded, the capacity is 58 FEU, of which there is space for 42 in the room and 16 on deck. The maximum weight of a 20-foot container stack may be 70 t in the room and 25 t on deck, that of a 40-foot container stack 90 t in the room and 40 t on deck. There are 12 connections for refrigerated containers on deck.

The hulls of the ships are reinforced with ice ( ice class E3). The masts can be folded down to reduce the clearance height.
