Appreciation

Paul Grohmann co-founded the Austrian Alpine Club in 1862 with Guido von Sommaruga and Edmund von Mojsisovics . He achieved numerous first ascents in the Dolomites , the Carnic Alps and the Zillertal Alps . Grohmann is one of the most outstanding Austrian alpinists of the early days.

In his honor, the previously unclimbed Sasso di Levante in the Langkofel group was renamed Grohmannspitze in 1875 . In Ortisei in Val Gardena in 1898, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, a monument was erected in honor of the first to climb many of the Dolomite peaks. In 1984 the Grohmannstrasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him.
