The art historian Alexander Tolnay commented on the work of Paul Uwe Dreyer in 1991 as follows:

If one speaks of the 'homage to the square' in connection with Josef Albers, then one would have to define the art of Paul Uwe Dreyer as 'homage to the diagonal'. This type of design, already described in detail by Kandinsky, in which direction and angular ridge determine the artistic expression between lyric and drama, is a recurring design element in Dreyer's works . "

To teaching

Paul Uwe Dreyer summarized his conception of teaching in 1988, at the time of his rectorate at the Stuttgart Art Academy, as follows:

To convey the identity with the person, expressing expression through the will to style, pictorially and sensually, is essential for me. The programmatic lack of conception through the wear and tear of known stylistic forms represents the resigned failure to a style will that points far beyond the individual image or the overall work and is therefore already based on utopian principles. To convert analytical thinking into clear thinking and a renewed return to permanence is the content of the course. "
