Peter E. Berger

Peter Edward Berger (born May 30, 1944 in Los Angeles , California , † September 22, 2011 in Calabasas , California) was an American film editor who has so far edited most Star Trek films and in 1988 with an Oscar nomination for best Cut was considered.

Life

Peter Edward Berger was born in Los Angeles as the son of the US editor Fred W. Berger . After doing his military service in Korea during the Vietnam War , he studied at UCLA and started working in the editing department at NBC , where he edited spots for television shows. Before he was responsible for editing his first film with the action film Hot Potato , he assisted Michael Kahn on films such as The Savage Is Loose and The Devil's Rain . It was also Kahn with whom Berger shared his greatest success in his career, as they both received an Academy Award nomination for Best Editing and the British Academy Film Award for Best Editing for the joint editing of A Fateful Affair .

Also, Peter E. Berger is the editor behind Star Trek IV: Back to the Present , Star Trek V: At the Edge of the Universe , Star Trek: Generations Meet , Star Trek: First Contact, and Star Trek: Insurrection Most Star Trek movies cut.

On September 22, 2011, Berger died of leukemia after a serious illness, leaving behind his wife, a son and a daughter, and five grandchildren.
