Karl Peter Frederic Albert Hermann (born August 15, 1967 in New York City ) is an American actor .

Life

Peter Hermann is the son of German parents and was born in New York City. However, his parents left the city after two months and Hermann grew up in Germany until he was 10 years old . The family then moved back to the United States and Hermann grew up in Greenwich , Connecticut . He graduated from Yale University in 1990 . He then worked as a teacher for several years before playing the role of Dr. in the soap opera Springfield Story in 1997. Michael Burke made his debut as an actor. He has since played supporting roles in such films as Flight 93 , Order Vengeance andPhilomena as well as recurring roles in series such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York .

Hermann made his Broadway debut in 2001 in the theater adaptation of Abby Mann's screenplay for The Judgment of Nuremberg . He also played on Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio in 2007 . From 2011 to 2013 he played various roles in the theater adaptation companions .

Hermann has been married to actress Mariska Hargitay since 2004 . The couple have a son and two adopted children.
