Peter Julius Hesse is a son of the married couple Ernst Oswald Hesse (born May 6, 1908) and Ilse, b. Renard (* around 1914). In 1937 he moved with his family to Germany and attended the Schloss Salem boarding school on Lake Constance until he graduated from high school . During his school career, he attended Phillips Academy in Andover , Massachusetts for a year .

From 1957 to 1958, Hesse initially worked as a trainee at the Crédit Suisse bank in Geneva , before he began studying business administration . In 1963 he completed his studies with a degree in business administration . Afterwards, Hesse worked in marketing at the family company Schmincke Künstlerfarben and, at the same time, trained as a marketing, management, creativity and group dynamics trainer. In the 1960s and 1970s he held seminars as a management trainer in industrial companies and educational institutions. The basis for this was a self-designed management system circle, which was supplemented by marketing management and creativity training ("Synectics").

In 1971 he took over the position of managing partner of the Schmincke company in Erkrath .

At the end of 1998, the fourth generation of Peter Hesse handed over the management of the company to a successor in favor of his political activities.

From 1966 to 1968 Peter Hesse was regional chairman of the Federal Association of Young Entrepreneurs (BJU) in Düsseldorf. In 1969 he founded the Committee for Management Education in Europe , which aimed to stimulate the German academic business administration.

In 1974 Hesse became a member of the CDU . Between 1974 and 1983 he got involved in the party by offering seminars for the CDU Düsseldorf with a focus on the social market economy and fair dialectics . In 1975 and 1976 he stood in the Düsseldorf CDU for a candidacy in the Bundestag constituency of Düsseldorf-Süd , but was narrowly defeated. From 1976 to 1982 he was a member of the Düsseldorf district executive committee of his party and a year later he founded and headed the development policy working group of the CDU Düsseldorf.

From 1984 on he was chairman of the Düsseldorf CDU local association zoo for four years, at the same time since 1984 he was also development policy officer of the CDU Düsseldorf and member of the federal committee for development policy of the CDU Germany. During this time Peter Hesse developed the “partnership-helper model”. In addition, he founded the political initiative “Basic Education of the Third World” in 1984 and began in 1981 with concrete involvement in grassroots projects to fight poverty in Haiti . Since 1988 Peter Hesse has only worked part-time and limited-term in the family company in order to concentrate on his development policy and practical development activities. Since 1991 he has been Honorary Consul of the Republic of Iceland in Düsseldorf .

From 1994 to 1995 he was a member of the VENRO founding committee, an association for development policy of German non-governmental organizations. He also started participating in international conferences organized by the UN , UNICEF , UNESCO and the World Bank . In the period from 1994 to 2001, Hesse was also chairman of "PARITÄT International", a non-governmental organization of the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband (DPWV) .

At the end of 2017, Peter Hesse left the CDU. Since then, he has been non-party committed with the aim of providing children with a child-centered, early-onset basic education that should enable them to learn throughout their lives.

Establishing a foundation and social engagement

Based on his personal experiences in Haiti, Peter Hesse began to fight poverty in the country in 1981. On December 7, 1983 , he founded the "Peter Hesse Foundation Solidarity in Partnership for One World" for this purpose. Five years later, the "Foundation Peter Hesse" was founded with a "Center Montessori D'Haiti", in which Montessori teachers are trained to support early childhood education in the country. In 1999 the name of the Peter Hesse Foundation was supplemented by the addition "... for ONE world in diversity".

In 2000, his foundation received the status of “Special Consultative Staus with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations - ECOSOC”. As part of the EXPO 2000 in Hanover , he carried out a worldwide project on early childhood and education. In 2001 he became the German representative in the “World Forum on ECCE” and has since taken part in international children's conferences and workshops.

In the following years Peter Julius Hesse wrote many books, for example We have the choice: ONE world in diversity - or none! or “Solidarity that matters” From 2010 onwards, with the foundation's Montessori projects, he focused on alleviating earthquake damage in Haiti . The destroyed CENTER MONTESSORI D'HAITI was reopened on December 7, 2012 - for the 30th birthday of the Peter Hesse Foundation. In this context, a German short film was made about the reconstruction of the training center: "It is BUT possible".

Since 2012 the Peter Hesse Foundation has been cooperating as an independent foundation with the Schmitz Foundations in Düsseldorf and with the “Association Montessori International (AMI)”. To ensure the future viability of the Peter Hesse Foundation, the President and Executive Director of AMI have been on the Foundation's board since 2013. In addition, the foundation has been working financially with Dr. Rupert Sheldrake from London , who scientifically deals with the demonstration of the existence of morphogenetic fields .

Peter Julius Hesse is married and has no children., He lives in Düsseldorf and since 2011 also in Paris.
