Peter Schallenberg (born August 25, 1963 in Oberhausen ) is a German Roman Catholic moral theologian and Christian social scientist .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1982 at Laurentianum Arnsberg , Schallenberg studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Theological Faculty in Paderborn , from 1984 at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana and at the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum . With graduation in 1987 he was in Rome for the deacon ordained, ibid he received for the Archdiocese of Paderborn on 10 October 1988, the priestly ordination . 1991 Schallenberg was as a student at the Collegium Teutonicum at Campo Santo with the work The development of the theological natural law in the late neo-scholasticism of the German language area with Klaus Demmer doctorate .

Schallenberg has held the chair for moral theology and ethics at the Theological Faculty in Paderborn since 2008 . He was visiting professor at the Pontificio Istituto "Giovanni Paolo II" of the Pontifical Lateran University, Rome, and at the Alba Iulia Theological College in Transylvania.

On April 1, 2010, Peter Schallenberg took over the directorate of the Catholic Social Science Center (KSZ) in Mönchengladbach and replaced Anton Rauscher SJ , who held the office for 46 years.

In 2018, Pope Francis appointed Schallenberg as consultor to the Dicastery for the holistic development of man in the Vatican , headed by Peter Cardinal Turkson .

Act

Schallenberg's main research areas are Christian social ethics , ethics of the social market economy and Christian social doctrine . To this end, he has published numerous writings and works. He is co-editor of Amos international magazine .

He has been a member of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) Pontifical Foundation since 2006 and is committed to ethics in economic issues. He is also an advisor to the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) . Since 2007 Schallenberg has been a member of the Association of German-speaking Moral Theologians and Social Ethicists and of the Societas Ethica. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Social Policy and Society Commission of the German Caritas Association . Since 2012 Spiritual Advisory Council of the Federal Association of Catholics in Economy and Administration (KKV) on behalf of the German Bishops' Conference. He is chairman of the ethics committee of the St. Vinzenz Hospital Society in Paderborn. He is the chairman of the social science working group of St. Klemens Kommende Dortmund (social institute of the Archdiocese of Paderborn).

Peter Schallenberg is committed to numerous initiatives in the Holy Land . In 1998, Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno made Schallenberg Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and invested in the German Lieutenancy on May 9, 1998 in Mainz Cathedral by Archbishop Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He is Commander of the Order.
