history

Weisbach was an independent parish with the Ginolf branch . The predecessor of today's church was built in 1605 under Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . At the same time, the church tower was raised, the lower parts of which date back to the 14th century. The current church was built between 1966 and 1969. Parts of the old church were reused.

description

The new church building faces north and has a rectangular, closed choir with groin vaults . The nave has an asymmetrical gable roof that is visible from the inside. Five late Gothic windows and a Renaissance portal of the old church were built into the western wall of the nave . Another Renaissance portal with columns and a round gable can be found in the southern wall. The basement of the church tower on the east side with its ribbed vault used to serve as a choir. In contrast to the new round choir arch, it is separated from the nave by a pointed arch . The church tower is a Julius Echter tower with ogival sound windows . The upper floor of the church tower is partially designed as a half-timbered structure , which is now plastered.

Furnishing

The high altar , the side altars and the pulpit were created around 1750 in the Rococo style. The altars have two pillars. At the high altar there is a pietà above the tabernacle . The side altars are decorated with altar paintings. Figures of the four evangelists are attached to the pulpit between twisted columns. In the former choir you can see frescoes in the vault. There is also the baptismal font , a sacrament niche and tombs of the von Eberstein family . The organ is set up on the gallery on the south side. Outside the church, a churchyard gate with the year 1613 has been preserved. A bell from 1415 is attached to a wall, possibly a fragment of the churchyard wall.
