The Roman Catholic parish church Rainbach im Innkreis is located in Rainbach im Innkreis in the municipality of Rainbach im Innkreis in the Schärding district in Upper Austria . The church, consecrated to Saint Peter , belongs to the Deanery Andorf in the Diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building .

history

A church was mentioned in a document around 1130. At the time of the early church organization in the Middle Ages, parts of the area around Rainbach belonged to the original parish of St. Weihflorian . Like the Münzkirchen parish , this consisted of areas that had originally belonged to the St. Severin parish in Passau's Innstadt . St. Weihflorian was first designated as an independent parish in 1182 when it was incorporated into the Passau “Innbruckamt”, which was subordinate to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city center. The parish of St. Weihflorian was very extensive: It lay between the area of ​​activity of the original parish of St. Severin and that of the original parish of Münsteuer and included the area of ​​today's parishes of Brunnenthal , Schärding , St. Florian am Inn , Suben , St. Marienkirchen and Eggerding , plus shares in today's parishes of Taufkirchen , Lambrechte and Rainbach . When the parish headquarters were relocated to Schärding in 1380, the St. Weihflorian area around Rainbach became a branch of Schärding.

The church in Rainbach was expanded in 1896 in baroque forms.

architecture

The Gothic church in baroque forms was extended to a five-bay nave, two lower Gothic nave bays have been preserved. The retracted one-bay cross-vaulted choir has a three-eighths closure. The Gothic tower was converted into an octagon at the top and has an onion helmet.

Furnishing

The furnishings are in the neo-renaissance style. The high altar has two good statues of St. John the Baptist and St. Paul from the second half of the 17th century.
