architecture

Church exterior

The church is a mighty, elongated baroque building with a slightly bent gable roof . The choir is a little lower than the nave and is retracted. The church tower adjoins the choir on the north side. The nave is divided by four flat arched windows on the north side and five on the south side. There is a low gable roof over the choir. The choir itself has two windows on the south side and one flat arched window on the sloping sides. At the joint of the 1920's extension of the nave is a bell roof turret with a death bell. The north tower ends with a pointed gable end. Above it is a square attachment and a conical roof. On the north side of the choir, next to the tower, there is also a two-storey sacristy extension with a pent roof. This was built in 1981. On the gable facade towards the village square is a mosaic of the " risen ". It was created in 1958 by Martin Häusle . On the south wall of the nave is a sundial with the years 1888-1921-1974 . The "Weibertürmle" was built in conjunction with the north facade. It offers a round arch passage to allow access to the cemetery. The tower, built in 1920, is a stair tower over a hexagonal floor plan. On the upper floor is an octagonal tower with a curved dome. Inside it forms a wood-clad flat dome and forms a corridor to the gallery. In the south of the facade there is a round arch opening with a stitch cap vault as an entrance to the cemetery with an attached war memorial. The crucifix comes from Gustav Bachmann . The figures of St. Mary and St. John also come from him.

Church interior

The nave of the church is hall-like. Above that is a flat ceiling over a wide hollow. A wooden barrel vault is located above the gallery. The walls are divided by arched windows, stations of the cross and images of the apostles. The high triumphal arch is drawn in and flattened. The barrel vaulted choir has moved in and ends in 3/8. Under the vault is a surrounding cornice. The gallery has three axes with flattened arches. Below is a flat wooden ceiling that rests on four richly carved supports by Gustav Bachmann. The nave walls under the gallery are extended by three blind cards. The stucco dates from 1756. There are lambrequins and gable decorations above the windows . Further stucco can be found framing the stations of the cross, in the form of the monograms of Jesus and Mary on the triumphal arch. The frescoes in the choir vault show the "Adoration of the Shepherds". They come from Waldemar Kolmsperger . The “ Assumption of Mary with village procession” can be seen in the fresco above the nave . It was painted in 1955 by Leopold Fetz as a copy of the original painting by Kolmsperger. The 13 apostle pictures in a stucco frame were painted by the Schwarzenberg painter Angelika Kauffmann based on the models of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta in 1757. They are the only wall paintings by this artist. The frescoes in the nave extension are in rectangular fields and medallions. They show the " Exaltation of the Cross " and St. John the Baptist as well as the " Finding of the Cross " and St. Stephen . On the left side the "Resurrection" and St. Luke are shown, on the right side " Ascension of Christ " and St. Mark . They were painted by Waldemar Kolmsperger in 1929. The Stations of the Cross are from the hand of Joseph Johann Kauffmann , Angelika Kauffmann's father. He painted the Stations of the Cross in 1757.
