Philipp Karl von Hundheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baron Philipp Karl or Carl Philipp von Hundheim or Hontheim (* before 1675, † 1737 ) was an imperial colonel in the War of the Spanish Succession as well as senior officer , secret councilor and treasurer of the Electoral Palatinate .

origin

Philipp Karl von Hundheim was born the son of Metternich's bailiff from Neckarsteinach . His parents were Johann Wilhelm von Hontheim (born January 19, 1630; † after 1685), who is documented there in 1677 and 1685, and Maria Elisabeth von Schönberg. His grandparents were the electorate councilor Johann Wolfgang (von) Hontheim (* April 27, 1588; † January 23, 1641) and (⚭ 1626) Margarethe Morbach († May 17, 1633).

Baron Lothar Friedrich von Hundheim (1668–1723), senior bailiff, war commissioner general, state minister ("budget minister") and diplomat of the Electoral Palatinate, was an older brother of Philipp Karl. A sister Johanna Gertrud von Hundtheim was (⚭ before 1714) married to Major General Johann Georg von Buchwitz and Buchau († 1739) from the Palatinate. The sister Marie Agnes von Hundheim († after 1746) was married to the Hessian major general and Heidelberg city commander Johann Hermann von Freudenberg .

Life

In April 1695 Hundheim was entrusted with a "Company of Carabiniers " as a lieutenant captain . In 1701 he served as a major in the Alt-Leiningen horse regiment of Count Wilhelm von Leiningen-Westerburg-Rixingen. In 1704 he joined the Dragoons body regiment of Major General Count Alexander Otto von Velen († 1727) as a colonel. From 1705 to 1709, when he abdicated, he took part in the War of the Spanish Succession under the command of the Imperial and Electoral Palatinate General Feldzeugmeister Freiherr Franz Fortunat von Isselbach (1663–1734) and Field Marshal Count Alexander Otto von Velen. A relative, Captain N. von Hundheim in the Isselbach foot regiment, died in September 1706 in the battle of Turin . In October 1706, the “Colonel of the Palatinate of Hundheim” reported to the Commander-in-Chief Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736) that the fortress of Tortona had been conquered by Isselbach's troops. In February 1707, Philipp Karl von Hundheim complained to Prince Eugene that two of the four Palatinate regiments had not received any pay for 7 months. When Isselbach returned to the Palatinate, he gave his command to Colonel Hundheim, who led the regiments Isselbach, Sachsen-Meiningen, Hatzfeld and Velen in 1707 on behalf of Prince Eugen from the Neuburg area towards Frankfurt am Main . After his abdication, Hundheim renounced the post of colonel in the Carabinier regiment of Count Alexander Otto von Velen, which was transferred to Colonel de Folleville in 1710.

Hundheimer Hof (today town house) in Bad Kreuznach, built by Philipp Karl von Hundheim

In 1710, Philipp Karl von Hundheim became the Electorate of the Palatinate in Dilsberg and followed his brother from around 1711 to 1721 as Oberamtmann of Kreuznach . From 1710 to 1714 Karl Philipp von Hundheim owned the manor (Edinger Schlösschen) and the Nothische Gut zu Edingen , which he sold for 16,700 guilders to the commandant of the fortress Otzberg Wilhelm von Deichmann. The Archbishop of Mainz Lothar Franz von Schönborn sold him in 1712 for 16,000 guilders his private property in Mainz and near Kreuznach, including a quarter of Mandel . This quarter was a fiefdom of Nassau-Saarbrücken from their rule in Kirchheim- Bolanden. There were differences with the co- condominium owners of Koppenstein about the construction work on the Protestant church and the rectory in Mandel as well as about the Catholic coexercise .

In 1713 Philipp Karl von Hundheim became a secret councilor and treasurer of the Electoral Palatinate. In 1715 he laid the foundation stone for a new Oberamtshaus in Kreuznach in the name of the sovereign Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz . On this occasion a medal was struck with the inscriptions

NO(m)I(n)E • IOAN(nis) • WILH(elmi) : ELECT(oris) : PAL(atini) : A(nn)o : 1715 • 25 Aug(usti) *
(= In the name of Johann Wilhelm, Elector Palatinate, in 1715 on August 25th )

The new Oberamtshaus in the Electoral Palatinate from 1715, which adjoined the Sengersche Burghaus (formerly: Eltzer or Blittersdorfischer Hof in the Säugass , today: Magister-Faust-Gasse 25 ), is not identical to the Hundheimer Hof (Hochstrasse 48 ) that he built and lived in ) , which was built on the site of the old upper office building. In November 1715, Karl Philipp von Hundheim and his wife bought 5 acres of farmland in and around Kreuznach for 400 guilders from the wild and Rhine Count Karl von Dhaun (1675–1733).

Former "Palais Hundheim", today "Grand Ducal Palace" in Heidelberg, 1717–19

In 1713/14 Philipp Karl von Hundheim bought various neighboring properties in Heidelberg and from 1717 had Louis Remy de la Fosse build the "Palais Hundheim" (today: Grand Ducal Palace , seat of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences ). As early as 1718 he sold the shell of the building, which was only completed in 1719, to Adamo (Amandus) Ernst von der Sachs.

The Palatinate War Councilor Philipp Carl von Hundheim, Oberamtmann zu Kreuznach, and his brother Lothar Friedrich were accepted into the Upper Rhine Imperial Knighthood in 1721. In 1734 Philipp Karl von Hundheim leased the “Prussian Court” (former “Pfalz-Simmernscher Hof”) in Kreuznach from Brandenburg-Prussia , which in 1739 was passed on by his widow to Johann Wilhelm Carmer (* 1687; † after 1735) - the father of Johann Heinrich by Carmer - has been assigned.
