Philipp Rehm (born January 3, 1979 in Berlin ) is a German bass player, composer and producer.

Life path

Philipp Rehm was born in 1979 in the eastern part of Berlin. At the age of eight he learned to play classical guitar, had solo appearances and also played in a classical orchestra. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , he moved with his family to the vicinity of Heidelberg at the age of twelve , where he began playing bass in local bands and jam sessions at the age of 17 . He began to play music professionally and finally, at the age of 20, studied electric bass as well as arrangement and composition at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Mannheim . Mediated by David Liebman and as part of the International Association for Jazz Education , he studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 2002 . In 2004 he was voted Germany's Superbasser of the Year by the German bass magazine Bass Professor . He has been Dutch by choice since 2009 and commutes between Rotterdam and Mannheim .

Artistic creation

Rehm works in different bands and alongside a wide variety of artists. His references in pop / rock are The Flames , Cassandra Steen , Dinho Alves, Pallavi Arun, Popgear, Valy Hedjasi , Martin Kilger, Hubert Kah , Metaphysics , Adel Tawil , Silke Hauck , Gregor Meyle , Ralf Gustke and Armin Rühl . In instrumental and jazz music, there are artists and bands such as Jürgen Friedrich (pianist) , hr-Bigband , Mannheim Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Against The Machine, Uli Brodersen, Nicole Johänntgen , Bruno's Boogaloo Orchestra, Emilio Martins and Norbert Scholly .

In his own projects he deals with new rhythmic patterns and creates a new music sound with elements from funk , dancehall , dub and secular musical styles. He works with the German drummer Ralf Gustke (including Xavier Naidoo , Schiller , Söhne Mannheims ), the German percussionist Tilman Bruno (Tobsucht, BAP , Beatclub21) and the Brazilian percussionist Emilio Martíns , who lives in São Paulo .

Awards

In 2004 Philipp Rehm was voted "Germany's Superbasser 2004" by the German bass magazine "Bass Professor". In 2002 he won the "Mannheim Music Award" in the band Popgear. In 2006 he performed with Martin Kilger's band Soundscaper at the Euro Video Grand Prix in Tirana, Albania. In 2009 he appeared in Cassandra Steen's band at the Bundesvision Song Contest, followed by numerous tours and TV appearances.
