Philipp Steen
Philipp Steen (born August 2, 1977 in Hamburg-Volksdorf ) is a German jazz bassist (double bass and electric bass).
Live and act
After taking classical guitar lessons, Steen began at the age of 16 with the electric bass . He played rock music with his father's Fender Jazz Bass , who ran a recording studio in his parents' house. With growing interest in jazz , the double bass was added. After graduating from high school in 1997 at Walddörfer-Gymnasium , he completed preparatory training at the State Youth Music School in Hamburg , where he was taught classical double bass, piano and theory while doing his civil service . From 1998 to 2002 he studied jazz and music at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . a. with Dieter Glawischnig , Wolfgang Schlueter , Lucas Lindholm , Willi Beyer and took part in the popular music contact course ( pop course ).
Since 1996 he has been playing in groups from Herb Geller , Jerry Tilitz , Wolfgang Schlueter , Florian Trübsbach , Günter Fuhlisch , Ladi Geisler , Karl Allaut , Lutz Büchner , Milla Kay and had numerous national and international freelance engagements. a. with Alan Broadbent , Danny Gottlieb , Torsten Goods , Nils Wülker , Johannes Lauer , Billy Harper , Howard Johnson , Lew Soloff , Bobby Shew , Gary Husband , Joshua Redman , Bud Shank , Torsten de Winkel , Eric Alexander , David Schnitter .
Since 2002 he has been playing with Boris Netsvetaev and Kai Bussenius in the Hammer Piano Trio . Festivals and tours have taken him through Europe, Asia, New York and the Caribbean.
In 2008 he received the jazz scholarship of the Dr. EA Langner Foundation for Hamburg jazz musicians up to 30 years of age. Steen lives in Hamburg.
