Philipp Wilhelm Edmund Müller , von Müller since 1901 , (born February 11, 1821 in Röttgen , † June 16, 1906 in Engers ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Edmund was the son of the Prussian forester Ludwig Wilhelm Müller (1785–1868) and his wife Katharina, née Huttanus (1800–1856).

Military career

After graduating from high school in Luckau , Müller joined the 3rd Jäger Department of the Prussian Army as a hunter on April 1, 1838, and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by early March 1842 . From April 9, 1845 to May 8, 1848 he worked in the 4th hunter department . Then Müller was transferred to the 8th Jäger Department and took part in the battles at Rinnthal, Bischweier and Kuppenheim in 1849 during the suppression of the Baden Revolution . For his work he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords on September 20, 1849 . As Prime Lieutenant he was transferred to the 7th Jäger Battalion on September 16, 1852, and from October 1856 he was in command of the 16th Infantry Regiment for one year . While being promoted to captain , Müller was transferred to the 6th Jäger Battalion on April 27, 1858 , and was appointed company commander in early February 1859 . In this capacity he took part in the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria .

He was aggregated into his battalion on July 10, 1866 and charged with commanding the IV Battalion in Queen Elisabeth's 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment . On September 11, 1867, he joined the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 as a major . This was followed by a position as commander of the Fusilier Battalion at the end of October 1868 and, on July 26, 1870, his promotion to lieutenant colonel . As such, he took part in the siege of Paris during the war against France in 1870/71 .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Müller was appointed commander of the 2nd Posenen Infantry Regiment No. 19 after the peace agreement on April 13, 1872 , and in this capacity was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1873 . He was promoted to major general on February 5, 1878 with a patent from January 18, 1878, and was transferred to the army officers. On March 12, 1878, he received command of the 7th Infantry Brigade in Bromberg and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on the ring , on September 16, 1879 . With the approval of his resignation request , Müller was put up for disposal on February 3, 1880 with a pension .

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I , he received the character of Lieutenant General on March 22, 1897 and was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on April 24, 1901 by Kaiser Wilhelm II . He died on June 16, 1906 in Engers.

family

Müller married Franziska Remy (1831-1851) on October 10, 1850 in Bendorf . After her untimely death he married her sister Auguste Remy (1834–1926) on June 10, 1854. The following children were born from this marriage:
