Pianezzo ( Lombard Pianezz [pjaˈnets] ) is a district of the municipality of Bellinzona in the Swiss canton of Ticino . Until April 1, 2017, it formed an independent political municipality that belonged to the then Giubiasco district .

geography

The village lies at the beginning of the Morobbi valley . The Paudo faction also belongs to him . In the south Pianezzo borders on the municipality of Cadenazzo / Monteceneri .

history

The place is first documented in 1382 as de Planezio . The name goes back to vulgar Latin plānitium and means "flat surface", thus designating the topographical conditions.

The area was already inhabited in the Iron Age (400–196 BC). In 1896–1905, 1907 and 1943 all Piazze, Carabella and alla Motta over forty graves from the older and younger Iron Age were found in the localities , with numerous additions, mostly of Ligurian or Gallic origin.

On April 2, 2017, Pianezzo joined the municipality of Bellinzona at the same time as the municipalities of Camorino, Claro , Giubiasco, Gnosca , Gorduno , Gudo , Moleno , Monte Carasso , Preonzo , Sant'Antonio and Sementina .
