Planomicrobium mcmeekinii is a type of bacteria . The species is one of the firmicutes . It was isolated by ice from the Antarctic Sea .

features

Appearance

The cells of Planomicrobium mcmeekinii are coccal or form short rods. Spores are not formed. The bacterium is 0.8–1.2 μm wide and 0.8–10 μm long. It is grief positive and occurs singly. It's flagellated.

Growth and metabolism

Planomicrobium mcmeekinii is chemoorganotrophic and aerobic . Growth appears at temperatures between 0 and 37 ° C. It tolerates NaCl levels from 0 to 14%. Planomicrobium mcmeekinii is therefore halotolerant . Propionic acid , pyruvate , acetate and malate can serve as the only carbon source . It can utilize gelatin and casein through hydrolysis . Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) and esculin cannot hydrolyze it. The catalase test is positive, the oxidase test and urease test are negative. Nitrate is reduced to nitrite .

Chemotaxonomic Features

The GC content in the DNA is 45.3 mol percent. The predominantly present menaquinones are MK-7 and MK-8. The cell wall contains lysine , glutamic acid , aspartic acid and alanine (peptidoglycan type A4α).

Systematics

Planomicrobium mcmeekinii is a member of the Planococcaceae family . It was first placed in the genus Planococcus in 1998 . Jung-Hoon Yoon introduced the bacterium in 2001 to the genus Planomicrobium . The bacterium is named after Thomas A. McMeekin , an Australian microbiologist.
