The Pomacanchi district is located in the Acomayo province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​267 km². The 2017 census counted 7,768 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7554, in 2007 it was 8340. The district administration is located in the small town of Pomacanchi at an altitude of 3693  m with 3650 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pomacanchi is located about 18 km southeast of the provincial capital Acomayo .

Geographical location

The Pomacanchi district is located in the Andean highlands in the southwest of the Acomayo province. The Río Apurímac flows north along the southern and western district boundaries . Lake Laguna Pomacanchi lies on the eastern border of the district .

The Pomacanchi district borders in the southwest on the Livitaca district ( Chumbivilcas province ), in the west on the Omacha district ( Paruro province ), in the north on the Acos , Acomayo and Sangarará districts , in the east on the Acopía district and in the southeast on the Túpac district Amaru ( Canas Province ).
