Location of Poschwitz in Altenburg

Poschwitz is the easternmost district of the Thuringian royal seat of Altenburg . The place gained fame through the manor house of those von der Gabelentz . The castle and some farm buildings of the manor still exist today.

geography

The place borders in the north-east on Windischleuba , in the east and south-east on its districts Remsa and Schelchwitz and in the north-west on the Altenburg district of Rasephas ;

history

The place was first mentioned in 1181 as Bossuwiz in the tithe register of the Bosau monastery near Zeitz . In 1264 the manor owners of the Otto von Poschwitz family were first mentioned . The place belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony- Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

Shortly after the invention of the Skat game in 1814, there was already a group of players at Poschwitz Castle who contributed a not inconsiderable part of the game's rules, one of the inventors who took over the manor in 1806 was Hans Carl Leopold von der Gabelentz .

Poschwitz was incorporated into the city of Altenburg on October 1, 1938. Due to the population growth in the city of Altenburg, there was an almost smooth transition to Poschwitz. At that time 80 people lived in the village. After the Second World War, the GSSD set up an SA-3 missile site to protect Altenburg-Nobitz airfield . The 53rd Fla Missile Brigade SA 11 was stationed on the site, the code name of the facility was Udwoitel . The Soviet armed forces withdrew in 1992. The barracks was located in the neighboring Rasephas district , the site is now developed as a north-east industrial area .

With the first district reform of the GDR in 1950, Poschwitz became part of the Altenburg district as a district of Altenburg . During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Posch joke came with the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.

Poschwitz, like Windischleuba and Ehrenberg, has a castle, which was the seat of the Lords of the Gabelentz for centuries . A fortified mansion stood in front of the castle as early as the 14th century. The von Gabelentz lords can be traced back to 1376. The moated castle burned down in 1507 and was converted into a castle around 1580, so there are still remnants of the castle. From 1842 to 1847 renovations and extensions were made by building a neo-Gothic south wing. The neo-Gothic tower tower was demolished in 1961 because it was dilapidated. The manor comprised an area of 126 hectares in 1945 and was expropriated by the land reform. The valuable linguistic library was lost to the Soviet Union as “looted art” , despite the fact that the director of the Lindenau Museum established a local history museum.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Altenburg bypass with the three federal highways 7 , 93 and 180 runs through the eastern part of the district. The nearest connection point Altenburg-Nord / Windischleuba is about 1 km away. A large part of the Weißer Berg industrial park is located in the local area, west of the town center, separated from it by the castle park. Among other things, the headquarters of the Altenburg armatures, the Altenburg slaughterhouse and the Altenburg mustard factory are located here. Furthermore, the professional fire brigade of the city of Altenburg , the THW -Ortsverband Altenburg and the Altenburg animal shelter are located here.
