The 2011/12 season was the 16th season in the highest South African men's soccer division, the Premier Soccer League . Defending champion Orlando Pirates started the season as champions , Jomo Cosmos and the Black Leopards secured promotion to the top division and replaced the relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces and Vasco da Gama , who lost the relegation games. The season started on August 12, 2011 and ended on May 19, 2012. Orlando Pirates was able to defend his championship title, while Jomo Cosmos was relegated directly. Santos Cape Town had to be relegated, but where the club failed and relegated.
* The game Golden Arrows against Black Leopards on February 26, 2012 was canceled after four minutes when the score was 0: 0 due to the use of tear gas by the police in front of the stadium combined with unfavorable wind conditions. Golden Arrows won the catch-up game on March 7, 2012 4-2.
Relegation
The relegation tournament started on May 23 and ended on June 30, 2012. The fifteenth of the Premier Soccer League 2011/12 ( Santos Cape Town ), the second ( Chippa United ) and the third of the National First Division 2011/12 ( Thanda Royal Zulu ) in a return match each. At the end of the tournament, the top of the table qualified for the Premier Soccer League 2012/13 , while the other two clubs had to play in the National First Division 2012/13 . The winner of the tournament was the second division promoted Chippa United, who immediately rose again after last year's promotion, while Santos Cape Town had to go into the second division.
