Pringy is a commune Déléguée in the French town of Annecy with 4,083 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Pringy is at 500 m , about five kilometers north of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The village is slightly elevated on the northern edge of the Annecy basin in the foothills of the Alps, above the Fier valley , in the Genevois .
The area of the 8.50 square kilometers of the former municipal area covers a section of the Annecy basin. The southern border runs along the Fier, which flows here from east to west through the valley floor. From the course of the river, the community area extended northward over the Pringy plateau to the height of Saint-Martin-Bellevue. To the northwest, the area extends over the valley system of the Viéran to the heights southeast of the Montagne de Mandallaz . On the wooded ridge of this mountain range, the highest point in the municipality of Pringy was reached at 860 m .
In addition to the actual town center, the municipality of Pringy also included various hamlet settlements and farms, including:
- Proméry ( 507 m ) on Viéran on the northern edge of the Annecy basin
- Ferrières ( 745 m ) at the height southeast of the Montagne de Mandallaz
- Chez les Burnets ( 750 m ) at the height southeast of the Montagne de Mandallaz
Neighboring parishes of Pringy were
- Cuvat and Saint-Martin-Bellevue in the north,
- Argonay in the east, Annecy-le-Vieux in the south,
- Epagny Metz-Tessy with Metz-Tessy and Épagny in the south,
- La Balme-de-Sillingy to the west.
history
The municipality of Pringy was settled very early. Finds from different epochs have been discovered, for example a stone ax from the Neolithic , two axes from the Bronze Age , a grave from the Iron Age and numerous small finds from the Roman Age . The place was first mentioned in a document as early as 867 under the name Primiacus . The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman personal name Primius and means something like Primius' estate .
Under the Counts of Geneva , Pringy belonged to the Kastlanei Annecy. In the early 15th century it came to Savoy with the Genevois and from then on shared its fate. There was a change of area in 1973 when the previously independent municipality Ferrières was incorporated into Pringy.
The municipality of Pringy was incorporated into the city of Annecy on January 1st, 2017.
population
With 4,129 inhabitants last (as of January 1, 2013), Pringy was one of the medium-sized municipalities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the early 1970s, thanks to its proximity to Annecy, there has been a significant increase in population. Numerous single-family houses were built outside the old town center. Today the settlement area has grown together almost completely with that of Argonay. The parish was part of the Annecy agglomeration.

Attractions
The neo-Gothic village church of Pringy dates from the 19th century . In Ferrières there is a chapel from the 17th century. Of the secular buildings, the Château de Monthoux (from the 13th century, remodeled in the 19th century) in a beautiful park and the Château de Proméry (originally from the 14th century, changed in the early 17th century - Monument historique ) are to be found mention.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time Pringy was predominantly an agricultural village. During the second half of the 20th century, the rapid development into a suburb of Annecy took place. Together with Argonay, Pringy shares a large industrial and commercial zone. Service companies, shops and companies in the electrical industry and trading companies have settled here.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road N201 which runs from Annecy to Saint-Julien-en-Genevois and to Geneva. Further road connections exist with Argonay, Meythet and Épagny. The nearest connection to the A41 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is around two kilometers away. Pringy has a train station on the Aix-les-Bains – Annemasse line .
