geography
Metz-Tessy is located at 461 m , about 5 km north-northwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The village extends on the northern edge of the Annecy basin in the Alpine foothills, at the southeast foot of the heights of the Montagne de Mandallaz, in the Genevois .
Metz-Tessy consists of the two nearby districts of Metz and Tessy. Other neighboring towns are Pringy in the north, Annecy-le-Vieux in the east, Meythet in the south and Épagny in the west.
history
The Metz-Tessy area was already settled during Roman times. Metz is first mentioned in a document in the 14th century. The first written mention of Tessy dates from 1392. This place name goes back to the gender name Tessius and means something like Tessius's estate . In the 19th century, the two previously independent municipalities merged, initially keeping the name Metz. It wasn't until 1935 that today's double name Metz-Tessy was introduced.
Attractions
The village church of Tessy was built in the neo-Gothic style. Of the secular buildings, the Château de Metz should be mentioned.

Since the beginning of the 1970s, thanks to its proximity to Annecy, there has been a marked increase in population, and the number of inhabitants has almost quadrupled. Numerous single-family houses were built outside the old town center. Today the settlement area has almost completely merged with that of Épagny.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time, Metz-Tessy was predominantly an agricultural village. During the second half of the 20th century, the rapid development into a suburb of Annecy took place. In the last few decades, larger industrial zones have been built near the main traffic axes. Service companies, shops and companies in the packaging and furniture industry have settled here.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N201 that runs from Annecy to Saint-Julien-en-Genevois and Geneva. Other road connections exist with Épagny and Meythet. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 2 km away. During the Second World War, the Annecy-Meythet airport was built on the plain south of the village .
