The Pro Chemnitz citizens' movement (short: PRO CHEMNITZ ) is a right-wing populist voter association in Chemnitz and is considered part of the pro movement . Since the end of 2018, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Saxony has been monitoring her for suspected right-wing extremist activities. After much hesitation, the online payment service PayPal blocked the movement's account after more than 100,000 people petitioned it.

history

The Pro Chemnitz citizens' movement was founded in 2009 by the ex- Republican City Councilor Martin Kohlmann and the former Chemnitz City Parliament President and ex- CDU member Reinhold Breede .

The former Republican City Council faction left the party after ongoing internal conflicts due to insurmountable differences and joined the new citizens' movement. Renaming the parliamentary group as an outward representation of this decision was initially forbidden by the mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig ( SPD ). The higher administrative court in Bautzen later lifted this ban.

The Pro-Chemnitz parliamentary group in the Chemnitz city council successfully sued the change in parliamentary group financing that was decided in 2005. The Federal Administrative Court ruled in 2012 that the regulation that had been adopted discriminated against smaller parliamentary groups.

After repeated serious riots in the initial reception facility for asylum seekers in Chemnitz-Ebersdorf during 2013 , Pro Chemnitz supported several protest demonstrations by a local citizens' initiative in which up to 200 people took part.

On January 19, 2015, Pro Chemnitz organized a vigil for freedom of expression , in which 300 people took part. The occasion was the police ban on the Dresden PEGIDA demonstration, which was pronounced against the gathering due to Islamist terror threats.

In August and September 2018, Pro Chemnitz organized the central demonstrations in the context of the xenophobic riots , which also attracted international attention.

Political classification

Dispose per Chemnitz - for a "situation analysis of the 'extreme right' in Chemnitz" on behalf of the DGB Region Southwest Saxony - in "person Kohlmanns [...] on good relations with the NPD in Saxony." While taking "pro Chemnitz to Nazism a distant or silent Attitude a. With the talk of the 'death of the people' or the 'masses of foreign ethnic groups who are brought into the country' […], Pro Chemnitz, however, follows on from the völkisch national discourse [sic] of the NPD ”. “In strategic terms” it resembles the pro-movement .

There are also contacts to the militant Nazi scene. For example, in the city council election in May 2014, a person belonging to the core of the forbidden comradeship National Socialists Chemnitz (according to the Ministry of the Interior) ran for Pro Chemnitz. Pro-Chemnitz parliamentary group leader Kohlmann denied an NSC membership of the candidate.

In 2011, however, the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony saw “no actual evidence of anti-constitutional efforts” in the Pro Chemnitz citizens' movement . The office has been monitoring the group since the end of 2018.

Election participation and results

Mayor elections

In the Mayor election in Chemnitz on June 16, 2013, Martin Kohlmann ran for Pro Chemnitz and achieved a result of 5.6 percent of the vote. Since none of the applicants achieved an absolute majority in this election, a new election took place on June 30, 2013, in which Martin Kohlmann also ran again and received 5.5 percent of the votes.

City council and local council elections

For the election of the Chemnitz City Council on June 7, 2009, the Pro Chemnitz citizens' movement stood under the name DSU, as they had members of the German Social Union running on their list. She received 12,608 votes (4.6 percent) in this election and thus provided three city councilors in the 2009-2014 election period.

In the election of the Chemnitz City Council on May 25, 2014, the Pro Chemnitz citizens' movement increased its share of the vote to 5.7 percent (+ 1.1 percentage points ) and again received three seats. In the Chemnitz district of Ebersdorf , Pro Chemnitz was the second strongest force after the CDU (25.3 percent) with 17.8 percent of the vote. In the elections of local councils of Chemnitz, which took place simultaneously with the City Council election, joined Pro Chemnitz exclusively in the village of Einsiedel and achieved here 3.97 percent of the vote.
