Q'orianka Kilcher , full name Q'orianka Waira Qoiana Kilcher (born February 11, 1990 in Schweigmatt , Germany ) is an American actress .

Life

Her maternal great-grandfather, who in Zuchwil grown citizens of Nunningen in the Swiss canton of Solothurn Yule Kilcher , emigrated at the beginning of World War II to Alaska and married there Ruth Weber from Pratteln . Q'orianka's grandmother, who later settled in Germany, and her mother were born in Alaska. She traveled the world and got to know the Quechua father Q'oriankas in Peru . In the language of her father, her first name means "Golden Eagle".

Q'orianka Kilcher was born in Schweigmatt in the southern Black Forest , spent her childhood in Hawaii and now lives with mother and brother in Los Angeles . Her father comes to visit from Peru every four to five years. She is a second niece of singer Jewel Kilcher .

Kilcher herself has been a street singer since she was six . After her family moved to Los Angeles in 1999, she got an engagement as a choir singer in the stage show How the Grinch Stole Christmas and also in the film adaptation The Grinch (2000, with Jim Carrey ).

In 2002, she joined the talent show Star Search , but left early. In the same year she had a small role in an episode of the television series Madison Heights .

Kilcher became internationally known when she was selected by film director Terrence Malick alongside Colin Farrell for the female lead role of Pocahontas in his period film The New World (2005). The film was a modest success financially in the United States, but earned an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography . Kilcher received very good reviews and was named Best Young Actress by the National Board of Review . In 2009 she starred in Marc Forby's film Princess Ka'iulani .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
