Quimbaya is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Quindío in Colombia's coffee-growing region (eje cafetero) . The name Quimbaya comes from the indigenous Quimbaya culture that lived in the region before the Spanish arrived .

geography

Quimbaya is at an altitude of 1425 m above sea level. NN 20 km northwest of Armenia and has an average annual temperature of 21 ° C. Quimbaya borders in the north on Alcalá in the department of Valle del Cauca , in the south on Montenegro , in the east on Filandia and Circasia and in the west on Cartago and Obando in Valle del Cauca.

history

The region was settled from Antioquia from the 19th century . Quimbaya was founded in 1914 and received parish status in 1922.
