La Tebaida is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Quindío in Colombia's coffee-growing region (eje cafetero) .

geography

La Tebaida lies at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level. NN 13 km southwest of Armenia and has an average annual temperature of 23 ° C. La Tebaida borders in the north on Armenia and Montenegro , in the south on Calarcá as well as Seville and Caicedonia in the Departamento Valle del Cauca , in the west on La Victoria and Zarzal in Valle del Cauca and in the east on Armenia.

history

The region was settled from Antioquia from the 19th century . La Tebaida was founded in 1916 during the last phase of the wave of migration. The place received the status of a municipality in 1954.

economy

The main industry of La Tebaida is traditionally agriculture , especially coffee growing . In addition to bananas , tobacco , citrus plants and fruit grown. In addition, some industry has settled in recent years. The airport of Armenia, the Aeropuerto Internacional El Edén , is located exactly on the municipal border between La Tebaida and Armenia.
