Rüsselbach is part of the municipality of Igensdorf in Upper Franconia in Bavaria .

geography

The place on the edge of Franconian Switzerland consists of the villages Oberrüsselbach, Mittelrüsselbach and Unterrüsselbach, the parish village of Kirchrüsselbach and the hamlets of Weidenbühl, Weidenmühle, Lindenhof and Lindenmühle. The four large districts and the first two hamlets mentioned are located at the southern foot of the Küheberg am Rüsselbach, which rises in Oberrüsselbach and flows into the Schwabach in the west at the Weidenmühle ; Lindenhof and Lindenmühle are further downstream above the Schwabach and on its banks.

history

The history of the place with its 1200 inhabitants goes back a long way.

The area around Rüsselbach was already settled in the Bronze Age. The barrows in the nearby Eichenlohe grove testify to this. Above Rüsselbach, on a nearby hill called Katz , the remains of the so-called Hainburg castle stalls (probably 11th to 13th centuries) can still be seen .

While some postpone the founding of Rüsselbach to the year 742, the year the diocese of Eichstätt was founded , to which Rüsselbach initially belonged, the first mention can be found in a certificate from Emperor Heinrich II. From 1010. At that time 40 villages belonged to the parish of Kirchrüsselbach with its fortified church, consecrated to the Apostle James and now an Evangelical Lutheran, halfway between the Katz and Kuhberg mountain ranges.

In the following time nothing changed in the size of the parish, but the rule over Rüsselbach changed several times in the following centuries.

The following changes of rule are documented:

The oldest building in Rüsselbach is the fortified church St. Jakobus in Kirchrüsselbach. The frescoes in the choir are said to date from around 1200. The church of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation has had its current appearance since the renovation in the years 1777 to 1779. The font dates from 1841, the altarpiece from 1842.

On March 27, 1961, an Ilyushin Il-18 of the Czechoslovakian ČSA broke apart during the cruise from Prague to Zurich and crashed into a field near Oberrüsselbach. All 52 occupants (44 passengers and eight crew members) were killed.

On January 1, 1972, Rüsselbach was incorporated into the municipality of Igensdorf as part of the municipal reform.
