Burgstall Hainburg

The Burgstall Hainburg , also called Burgstall Rüsselbach , is an abandoned medieval hilltop castle near Rüsselbach , a district of the market town of Igensdorf in the Forchheim district in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The castle stable of the Spornburg is located on a spur-like elevation of the Küheberg (on the "Katz") at 507  m above sea level. NN via Unterrüsselbach. The Rüsselbachtal runs south of the castle, the Schwabach valley to the west and the Kalkach valley to the north . in the east there is a ridge.

description

The castle complex, measuring 140 by 90 meters, secured by a mighty wall- ditch system, had a core castle and an outer castle with a southern and northern extension.

A high-resolution 3D terrain scan and terrain traces indicate a fortification from the 11th to 12th centuries that was expanded in the 13th century. The fortress was presumably the seat of several lordly families. In 1504 the facility was already referred to as "purkstal" near Unterrüsselbach and in 1567 as Burgstall Rüsselbach. There is an indication that the castle was owned by the Reichsministeriale von Rüsselbach, who died out in the 12th century .
