The RWE generation SE is a 100% subsidiary of RWE -Konzerns, in the transnational activities of conventional electricity generation are summarized. The company operates as the European Company ( Societas Europaea , SE for short ) and is headquartered in Essen .

RWE Generation operates around 50 conventional RWE power plants with a total capacity of more than 50 gigawatts in Western Europe, either directly or indirectly through national subsidiaries . The exception is the area of renewable energies , most of which (with the exception of a few biomass and hydropower plants) is handled by the sister company RWE Innogy . Also excluded are some power plants in Eastern Europe that are operated by the sister company RWE East through its national subsidiaries.

history

In October 2012, RWE announced that it wanted to bundle its electricity generation capacities in an international company as part of a restructuring of the group. In addition to the conventional RWE power plants in Germany, those of the RWE subsidiaries in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom should also be included. RWE expects the bundling to generate synergy effects and thus an increase in efficiency in the increasingly difficult market environment of the energy industry.

On January 1, 2013, the new company began its operative business.

Corporate structure

RWE Generation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RWE, operates hard coal and gas-fired power plants in Germany as an operating company, which were taken over by the subsidiary RWE Power , but also acts as the parent company for the national RWE subsidiaries in the field of power generation. In addition to the power generation companies, the technical consulting company RWE Technology International also belongs to the Generation group.
