The district of Ramban is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
The district was created on April 1, 2007 as a split from what was then the Udhampur district . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Ramban .
The district borders on the following neighboring districts: Reasi , Udhampur , Doda , Anantnag and Kulgam . The Ramban District extends over the Pir Panjal . The Chanab River runs through the southern part of the district.
The district has an area of 1527.65 km² and a population of 283,713 (2011 census). In 2001 the population was 214,944. The population density is 186 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The district is divided into two tehsils : Banihal and Ramban.
