Ramires - with full name Ramires Santos do Nascimento (born March 24, 1987 in Barra do Piraí ) - is a Brazilian football player . He prefers to play in midfield and is under contract with the Brazilian club Palmeiras São Paulo .

Ramires began his career in the youth of Joinville EC . In 2006 he moved up to the first team of his club, where he came to his first appearances in the men's area. In January of the following year he moved on loan to Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte and was committed at the end of the loan from Cruzeiro. In his second year, the midfielder caught the attention of European teams. On May 21, 2009, Ramires signed a five-year contract with Benfica Lisbon . Right away he became a regular player.

Ramires made his debut in the SuperLiga on the second match day of the 2009/10 season against Vitória Guimarães on August 23, 2009. Coach Jorge Jesus put him on the grid. Shortly before the end of the game, the offensive player scored the only goal of the day for a 1-0 away win. In the next four league matches, he scored three more goals. For the first time this season, Ramires also played in the UEFA Europa League , in which Benfica failed in the quarter-finals at Liverpool FC .

On August 4, 2010, Ramires moved to Chelsea in the English Premier League for around £ 17 million . With Chelsea FC he was English champion as well as Champions and Europa League winner .

On January 27, 2016, Ramires moved to the Chinese Super League to Jiangsu Suning for a transfer fee of 32 million euros . After playing his last game for Jiangsu Suning in May 2018, Ramires left the club after his contract expired at the end of May 2019. He returned to Brazil and signed a four-year contract with Palmeiras São Paulo in June .

On July 21, 2008, Ramires took part in the Olympic football tournament. With his team he won the bronze medal. On May 21, 2009 he was appointed to the Brazilian selection for the first time for the World Cup qualification and for the Confederations Cup 2009 . He played his first international match on June 6, 2009 in World Cup qualification against Uruguay . Coach Carlos Dunga replaced him in the 66th minute for Elano . The subsequent Confederations Cup won the team with a 3-2 victory over the USA; Ramires was used in all five games during the tournament.

In May 2010, Ramires was appointed by Dunga to the squad for the World Cup in South Africa. He scored his first two goals in 2010 in preparation for the World Cup in a 5-1 win against Tanzania after being substituted on at half time. During the World Cup finals, Ramires came to four out of five possible appearances, including three as a substitute. After he came only to short appearances in the group stage, coach Dunga put him on the starting line-up for the round of 16 against Chile . Ramires was suspended for the quarter-final match against the Netherlands ; his team lost 1: 2 and was eliminated from the tournament. After the World Cup, which was disappointing for the Brazilian national team, Ramires under new coach Mano Menezes was part of the rebuilding of the Seleção . In the summer of 2011, he was for the Copa America in Argentina nominated .

On May 8, 2014, he was appointed to the squad of the Brazilian national soccer team for the 2014 World Cup by the Brazilian national coach Luiz Felipe Scolari . There he was used in all six games of the Brazilian team (five substitutions and one substitution).
