Ramsbeck union

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ramsbeck union was a mining company in Ramsbeck in the first half of the 19th century. It went on in the 1850s in the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Bergwerkverein and then in the joint stock company for mining, lead and zinc production in Stolberg and in Westphalia .

After the decline of the Ramsbeck mining industry in the 17th century, there was an upswing in the 18th century. The fragmentation of the Ramsbeck mining industry into several individual businesses prevented greater economic success. Only under Prussian administration did the area gain more attention. In particular, the then mountain master , later Oberbergrat Buff , made a contribution to mining. In 1815 he summarized the many individual properties (west and east of the Valme ) to form the "Ramsbeck Trade Union". The union consisted of 128 shares ( Kuxen ).

In 1811, mayor Bernhard Kropff sold the following mines to a "Ramsbeck union":

  • 1. the lead pit »Riss« in the Elper Feldmark,
  • 2. the lead pit »KIingelborn« in the Gevelinghäuser Feldmark,
  • 3. the lead pit »Eltmicke« near the waterfall ,
  • 4. the lead pit "Glücksanfang". in the Blüggelscheidter Feldmark,
  • 5. the lead mine "Bastenberg" in the Ramsbeck Feldmark together with the associated lead smelter, the coal shed, a forge and the inventory items in the smithy and in the smithy,
  • 6. The lead mine "Dörenberg" in the Gevelinghäuser Feldmark at seven-eighths along with the forge there at seven-eighths and the inventory in it, then the three miners' houses and a Pochplatz and shaft lived in by Josef Padberg, Jost Knode and Michael Vollmer. These little houses and the Pochplatz are also seven-eighth. At last
  • 7. all ores found inside and outside the mines on the Dörenberg, Bastenberg and Eltmicke.

Ownership

Around 1818, citizens of Arnsberg and civil servants who had moved there acquired shares in the Ramsbeck trade union. In 1830 all Kuxe were in private hands. The following names have been handed down:

  1. Court court president Wurzer from Arnsberg
  2. Franziska Schlüchter, b. Schelle (later wife of Josef Cosack)
  3. Apothecary Brisken from Arnsberg (about half of the Kuxe)
  4. Jon Droste from Ramsbeck
  5. Mr. from Weichs to Wenne
  6. Mr. from Wrede to Melschede
  7. Anton Schulte from Cologne
  8. Widow and children of the road construction inspector Wulf (8 16/30 Kuxe) 1838

Josef Cosack from Arnsberg took over the leadership of the Ramsbeck union. Gradually he acquired the union's shares. In 1832 Cosack had acquired almost all of the Kuxe. The merchant Friedrich Wilhelm Brökelmann from Neheim acquired a few shares from 1840 . In 1851 Cosack sold 26/27 of the Ramsbeck union for 250,000 thalers to the "Rheinisch-Westphälischer Bergwerkverein". The missing shares (1/27) leased from the Rheinisch-Westphälische Bergwerkverein. Brökelmann received 18,000 thalers for his shares. In 1853 the "Aktiengesellschaft für Bergbau, Lead- und Zinkfabrikation zu Stolberg und in Westphalen" merged with the Rheinisch-Westfälischer Bergwerkverein and became the owner of the Ramsbeck trade union. The union was not legally dissolved until 1926.

Mining

Map of the pits belonging to the Ramsbeck union on the Dörnberg. Recorded in November 1847.

In the pits Alexander (near Blüggelscheidt), Glücksanfang (near Berlar ), Bastenberg, Willibald, Dörnberg , Morgenröte and Aurora (formerly the Klingelborn pit), the corridors of the Bastenberg and Dörnberg were preferably mined. The veins were opened up with the help of tunnels.

The Bastenberg mine at that time included:

  1. Venetian gallery
  2. Bernhard tunnel
  3. Oberstollen
  4. Sheepfold studs
  5. Karl Friedrich Stollen (1820)
  6. Joseph's tunnel

The Dörnberg mine had the following tunnels at the time of the Ramsbeck trade union:

  1. Ludwig tunnel (1812)
  2. Karl studs
  3. Heinrichs tunnel

In 1812, the mining foreman Buff predicted a good development for the union: “At the Dörnberg mine there is a deep tunnel in operation, which, at 150 laughs, brings in 20 laughs depth and now 50 laughs has been driven into the field. […] On the Bastenberg mine, the western field site of the old tunnel, a few ridges and a deep tunnel, which brings in 20 tefe for every 100 laughs, is documented; these pits promise yield for the future. "

In 1817, shift foreman Schwarze from Bigge acted as administrator of the lead mines in Bastenberg, Dörrenberg, Ries, Eltmicke, Klingelborn and Glücksanfang in Berlar as well as the lead works and the stamping mill in Ramsbeck.

The Vemed pastor Emilianus Eifler wrote in his chronicle in 1823: “In 1812 a costly tunnel was created on Dörnberg, which was named Ludwigs tunnel. He walks through a very hard rock and only very slowly forwards. But by 1823 there were 136 laughs . The tunnel at the Bastenberg was created in 1820, and called Karl Friedrichs tunnel; has 50 laughs up to the above-mentioned year. "

1836, the Ramsbecker Union on road construction involved Ramsbeck - Velmede 600 Taler. This connected the Ramsbeck mining industry to the roads to Cologne and Kassel. In 1836, funding was introduced in Hunten and on railways. In 1848 lead and zinc prices fell on the world market. The production of the previously profitable Alexander and Glücksanfang mines had to be stopped. In Cosack's time fine silver was delivered to the royal mint for 50,000 tlr a year. In Wasserfall on the Plästerlegge , the Josef Cosack trade union operated a shot foundry and had the lead obtained by the Ramsbeck trade union processed. By engaging systematically trained staff, e.g. B. the mine manager Johann Wurmbach from Siegen, the mining was put on a professional basis. In the 1830s and 1840s the Ramsbeck union was the largest company in the Meschede district with up to 220 employees.

processing

In 1825 the union built the first processing facility at the level of the Bernhard tunnel on the Bastenberg. Another preparation for the pile of the Karl-Friedrich-Stollen and the Dörnberg had to be done in 1835. In 1836 a stamping mill was built in Valmetal. In 1839 another stamping mill was built on the site of the later electrical center. The ore content of the heap was enriched with the help of stamp mills and washes. In spring and autumn, when the meadow was then watered, the operation of the pounding and washing works had to be stopped for environmental reasons.

Smelting operation

In 1835 the union replaced the old Ramsbeck lead smelter from the Electoral Cologne period with a new building. The hut consisted of a building "70 feet long and 44 feet wide", two Krummöfen, a flame furnace , a stripping furnace (for silver extraction) and a box blower . The total cost was 4,000 thalers. The extracted zinc ores could be found in Ramsbeck, u. a. for environmental reasons, are not processed further. They were sold to the Stadtberger union ( Marsberg ). 1846–1848 the Ramsbeck union tried to build an iron and zinc works. Ultimately, the union failed to finance the environmental protection requirements.
