Rasmus Karjalainen (born April 4, 1996 in Oulu ) is a Finnish football player . The winger is under contract with Örebro SK as a loan player to the honorary division leader Fortuna Sittard in Fotbollsallsvenskan . He has been a Finnish international since June 2018 .

Career

Karjalainen started his career at Oulun Luistinseura . For the 2015 season he moved to FC Kerho 07 , the second team of the first division club Seinäjoen JK . He made his debut for the club, which played in the third-class Kakkonen -Nord, on April 28, 2015 against Kokkolan PV . That season he scored 15 goals in 27 league games, including two hat-tricks against BK Jakobstad and FC Santa Claus . After his strong season, the second division AC Oulu became aware of Karjalainen and finally signed him on November 19, 2015. In the 2016 season he played 22 games and scored three goals and was able to prepare four more. For the 2017 season , the first division PS Kemi Kings secured the services of the winger . He made his debut for his new club on the first day of play against Helsingfors IFK . Karjalainen scored his first goal in the Finnish top division on May 23 in a 3-1 away win against FC Inter Turku . During this season he scored eight goals in 32 missions and prepared two more.

On November 24, 2017, Karjalainen's move to league competitor Kuopion PS was announced. He made his debut on January 19, 2018 in the Suomen Cup against Musan Salama . Nine days later, he was able to celebrate his first goal for KuPs in a 3-1 away win against his former employer PS Kemi. In the Veikkausliiga he scored his first goal on April 15, 2018 against the Tampereen Ilves . On May 3, he scored twice against Seinäjoen JK and only four days later against FC Inter Turku even three times. At the end of the 2018 season, he was 3rd in the table with his club. In the race for the top scorer's crown, with his 16 league goals , he only had to admit defeat to the Brazilian Klauss , who scored three more goals.

After starting the 2019 season with three goals in twelve league games, his move to the honorary division Fortuna Sittard was announced on June 24, 2019 , where he signed a four-year contract. There he made his league debut on August 4th (1st matchday) in the 4-0 away defeat against AZ Alkmaar . He suffered from adjustment difficulties, did not make it to play in the starting lineup and was therefore also used in the reserve. His first goal waited until November 30th (15th matchday), when he scored the winning goal in the home game against FC Groningen shortly after being substituted for the 1-0 win. In this 2019/20 season he played 15 league games in which he scored one goal and one assist .

On August 25, 2020, he moved to the Swedish first division club Örebro SK on loan until June 30, 2021 .

National team

Rasmus Karjalainen completed one deployment for the U-20s and eight for the U-21s in Finland. At the end of June 2018 he was nominated for the first time by coach Markku Kanerva for the A selection of his home country during the friendlies against Romania and Belarus . In the game against Romania he made his debut for Huuhkajat on June 5, 2018 , when he came into play for Berat Sadik in the 63rd minute of the game. The game ended in a 2-0 defeat for Finland.

On January 11, 2019, he scored his first international goal in a 2-1 away defeat in the friendly against Estonia .
