Rasmus Lindgren (born November 29, 1984 in Landskrona ) is a Swedish football player . He made his debut in November 2008 for the Swedish national team .
Career
Beginnings in Sweden
Lindgren joined Landskrona BoIS in 2001 . There he first played in his youth. In the 2002 season he moved up to the Allsvenskanskader of the club in relegation battle. Although he trained regularly with the competition team, he was never used. Nevertheless, word of Lindgren's talent got around and the Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam invited the midfielder to a trial training session for the U23 team of the traditional club in November of that year. There he was able to convince and signed a one and a half year contract, Ajax paid 1.5 million Swedish crowns in training compensation to his old club. On April 27, 2004, the young talent made his debut in the 2-0 away win against the Croatian U21 national team in the Swedish U21 selection . In the following games he was able to establish himself in the squad of the national team.
Time at Ajax and FC Groningen
After Lindgren had established himself as a regular in the Ajax reserve team and was appointed team captain , he moved up in the 2004/05 season in the squad of the competition team. On February 13, 2005, he made his debut in the 2-1 away win at NAC Breda in the Eredivisie . Under coach Ronald Koeman , he was subsequently part of the squad, but was only used irregularly. Since his successor Danny Blind relied on other players despite a contract extension, the midfielder was loaned to league rivals FC Groningen .
At FC Groningen, Lindgren was able to assert himself in the team around players like Glen Salmon , Erik Nevland or Jevgenij Levtjenko as a regular and was set up in his first season by coach Ron Jans in 32 games in the honor division. He was also used in all four games in the Dutch qualifying round for the starting place in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League , but the club failed in the final round to Lindgren's previous club Ajax. Due to the stable performance, the club signed the defensive midfielder a year before his contract with Ajax. He was largely able to confirm the trust placed in himself by the club officials, but was also expelled from the field on October 25, 2006 for the first time in his career. In the 2-1 win over Excelsior Rotterdam with two goals from Nevland, he saw the yellow-red card in the 81st minute of the game .
Return to Ajax and debut in the national shirt
After Lindgren played strong in the first half of the 2007/08 season, Ajax coach Marco van Basten decided to bring the player back during the winter break. The traditional club transferred 24 million Swedish kronor to the north of the Netherlands as a transfer fee. National coach Lars Lagerbäck also noticed the midfielder and nominated him for the international match of the Swedish national team against the Turkish national team in February 2008. However, due to a thigh injury, he had to cancel his national team debut and was replaced by Andreas Dahl . A short time later he was fit again and scored his first goal for Ajax in the 6-2 win over Sparta Rotterdam on February 15. After he had only missed one game by the end of the season, he was one of the regulars in the following season at the side of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar , Oleguer and Luis Suárez . In November he was called up again by Lagerbäck to play the Swedish national team against the Dutch Elftal . On November 19, 2008 he was in the 1: 3 defeat for 90 minutes in the "home" Amsterdam Arena on the pitch. After he only played as a supplementary player in the 2010/11 season and there was strong competition in his position with de Zeeuw and Enoh , he moved to Austria for FC Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2011 .
New challenge in Salzburg
In Salzburg, Lindgren signed a contract until June 30, 2013 and should strengthen the defensive there with his international experience. As in Groningen, he was given the number “21” on his back , which was previously worn by Salzburg's record goal scorer and crowd favorite Marc Janko before he moved to FC Twente Enschede . He scored his first goal for Salzburg on matchday 27, the 2-2 equalizer against FC Admira Wacker Mödling . In the 2011/12 season he came to a total of 20 missions and scored one goal. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Lindgren was eliminated from the professional squad as part of the squad restructuring. At the end of September 2012, the contract was terminated prematurely by mutual agreement. He was then without a club.
Return to Groningen
On January 1, 2013, the Dutch first division club FC Groningen signed him . He signed a three and a half year contract until the end of June 2016.
