Ray Merrick

Ray Merrick (born February 1, 1918 in Northfield , † September 12, 2003 in Elston ) was a British racing car driver .

Career

Ray Merrick was active in a few sports car races in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He competed twice in the Le Mans 24-hour race . 1953 he went along with the later General Motors sports car developer Zora Arkus-Duntov a plant - Allard J2R . The performance ended prematurely after 65 laps after engine failure. Two years later he was racing on a works kieft . Again he left early - this time because of a leak in the oil tank.

In 1951 he won a national race in Isbley and in 1954 he finished the RAC Tourist Trophy, which is part of the sports car world championship, as 24th overall.
