Raymond Poisson (born April 30, 1958 in Saint-Hyacinthe , Canada ) is a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Saint-Jérôme and Mont-Laurier .

Life

Raymond Poisson graduated from Montréal with a degree in theology. He was ordained a priest on December 9, 1983 . This was followed by a doctoral degree at the Gregoriana in Rome. The subject of his ecclesiological dissertation was Teilhard de Chardin's understanding of the church and the Eucharist . After his return to Canada he worked as the private secretary of the Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and as a pastor in the pastoral area of Sainte-Marguerite-d'Youville .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on May 1, 2012 auxiliary bishop in Saint-Jérôme and titular bishop of Gegi . The bishop of Saint-Jérôme, Pierre Morissette , ordained him episcopal on June 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Luc Cyr , Archbishop of Sherbrooke , and Lionel Gendron PSS , Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Joliette on September 8, 2015 . The inauguration took place on November 4th of the same year.

On May 18, 2018, the Pope appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Saint-Jérôme. With the resignation of Pierre Morissette on May 21, 2019, he succeeded him as Bishop of Saint-Jérôme. On June 1, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mont-Laurier while simultaneously uniting the dioceses of Saint-Jérôme and Mont-Laurier in persona episcopi .
