The Rehkopf near Brilon Forest in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is 675.1  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Schellhorn ridge in the Rothaargebirge .

The Rehkopf located in the Sauerland is in the northeast part of the Rothaargebirge and forms the northern elevation of the Schellhorn, a mountain range up to 760  m high in the Großer Kluskopf between the Hoppecke in the east and its tributary Schmalah in the west; to the south the landscape leads over the Großer Kluskopf to the Hoppernkopf ( 805  m ). In the south of the urban area of Brilon it is located around 2 km south of Brilon-Wald and around 4 km northwest of the core town of Willingen , which is in the neighboring district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in northern Hesse . Its summit rises about 1 km south-southwest of the confluence of the Schmalah in the Hoppecke.

Parts of the Hoppecke-Diemel-Bergland landscape protection area (landscape type A) ( CDDA no. 345020; designated in 1989; 78.03 km² in size) are located on the Rehkopf .

Natural allocation

The deer head belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge (333.8) to the natural area Schellhorn and Treiswald (333.82); its northern slope falls into the Habuch (333.83) natural area .

Mountain height

Topographic maps show further heights in the vicinity of the 675.1  m (north dome) high Rehkopf summit. The German basic map from 2011 gives the deer head at 674.7  m and still records 674.2 m for a southern crest and 671.3  m for the notch between the two crests,  which are almost 100 m apart.

Traffic and walking

East past the deer's head of Hoppecke of runs in the valley Brilon-Wald for Willingen the federal road 251 and the Upland Railway and north and northwest of the branches off from the B 251 and initially along the Schmalah after Elleringhausen leading national road  743. On and on the Rehkopf run several forest roads and paths.
