Reinhard Hempelmann

Reinhard Hempelmann (born September 19, 1953 in Bünde , Westphalia) is a German Protestant theologian and author. From 1999 to 2019 he headed the Evangelical Central Office for Worldview Issues (EZW).

Life

Reinhard Hempelmann studied Protestant theology in Bethel and Heidelberg and is pastor of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia . From 1980 to 1984 Hempelmann was a research assistant at the University of Osnabrück . He received his doctorate in Heidelberg with his work on the sacrament as a place of mediation of salvation . As a lecturer for theological subjects, he worked for eight years at the YMCA secretary school in Kassel. From 1992 to 1998 he was a consultant for the Evangelical Central Office for Weltanschauungsfragen (EZW) for new religious and spiritual movements. From 1999 until his retirement in 2019 he was the head of the EZW and from 2003 a lecturer at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig .

The focus of his publications is on the topics of New Religious Movements , Charismatic Movement , Pentecostalism , Evangelicalism , Christian Fundamentalism , Ecumenical Theology and New Atheism . Even those affected like Thomas Schirrmacher , one of the leading evangelicals in Germany, attested Hempelmann in 2010 that the evangelical movement was represented fairly.

Hempelmann is married and has two children.
