The Reismann-Gymnasium is a grammar school in the East Westphalian city of Paderborn , which was founded in 1888 as a private high school . It bears the name of its founder Heinrich Reismann . Today around 1000 students are trained by 80 teachers at the Reismann-Gymnasium.

history

As early as 1878 the city council of Paderborn passed the resolution to set up a commission under Mayor Franz Franckenberg, which should work out the plan for a six-class municipal and Catholic secondary school. However, this plan and others failed. It was not until Easter 1888 that the city of Paderborn agreed in a contract with the teacher, Rector Heinrich Reismann, to open the six-year private citizen school with boarding school. The city support amounted to 2,000 marks per year. Initially, there were only four classes that were attended by 72 students. Until 1889 the students were housed in the Brand'schen Haus in Giersstraße and from 1889 in the rented former journeyman's house in Jüßengasse. In 1893 the move to the final building at Gierstor followed. In 1905 the school was expanded to include additional buildings and a playground.

In 1923 the city of Paderborn took over the sponsorship of the school, which at the time was called "Städtische Realschule - Reismann Paderborn". Justus Herzog became the new headmaster. The first high school graduates left school in 1927. Under the director, Herzog, who held office until 1942, the school experienced the change to the "Städtische Reismannschule, German high school for boys, Paderborn".

The Duke, who retired in 1942, was succeeded by Dr. Friedrich Bock, one of the two Paderborn local group leaders of the NSDAP . After the end of the war in 1945, lessons had to be moved to the neighboring Pelizaeus School because, among other things, the main building was destroyed by bombs on March 27, 1945 and the remaining outbuildings were insufficient.

After the upper level reform of 1974 with the abolition of the school types, the school was called "Reismannschule, Gymnasium der Stadt Paderborn", from 1978 "Reismann-Gymnasium, secondary level I and II, Gymnasium der Stadt Paderborn". In 1975, co-education was introduced at the school, which until then had only been attended by boys .

In 1988 the science rooms were expanded, and in 1993 the C building was built.

The Reismann-Gymnasium is the first gymnasium in the city to introduce the “bound full day ” for the lower grades. At the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year, the new concept for the new fifth graders was introduced. According to the school profile, students can still choose between an orientation in sports, art or music. As part of the all-day concept, a school social worker was hired for the first time in the history of the school. Previously, only one teacher had taken on such advisory activities for the students in addition to her teaching work.

A lot of construction work has been going on at the school for several years: A new building for natural sciences and art was built, which was put into operation at the start of the 2011/2012 school year. At the same time, a cafeteria was built in the schoolyard of the Pelizaeus grammar school for the two grammar schools, which was officially opened on March 28, 2012.

With effect from August 1, 2012, the Reismann-Gymnasium received the status of an NRW sports school .

The E-building (biology rooms, sports hall) was demolished for the 2013/14 school year. This was replaced by the construction of a new sports hall, which was opened in April 2016.

For example, particularly gifted pupils in the 9th and 10th year of school are awarded annually for their achievements in the MINT subjects. New acquisitions are also often co-financed by the development association.
