The Reitbach is a 9.3 km long brook in the municipal areas of Anthering and Nußdorf am Haunsberg in the north of the state of Salzburg in the Salzburg-Umgebung district . It is the confluence of the Antheringer Bach and Bruckbach , runs through a protected meadow landscape and flows into the Salzach just above the city limits of Oberndorf near Salzburg .

Course and characteristics

The Reitbach itself without its source rivers overcomes only a few meters in altitude and flows - first in the Antheringer area and then through the Nussdorf cadastral community of Weitwörth - parallel to the Salzach in a northerly direction. It runs exclusively through the alluvial forest belt on the right bank of the Salzach, which (together with other floodplains along the Salzach on Upper Austrian soil) is designated as a Natura 2000 bird sanctuary under the name of the Salzachauen European Protected Areas . A tributary flows into the Oichten in front of the confluence , shortly before it also flows into the Salzach.

The Reitbach is the same as other bodies of water in this area, but also like its upper course, the Antheringer Bach, the home of some beavers , which were exterminated in Salzburg in the 19th century and resettled after the mid-20th century.

The water of the Reitbach can be used as drinking water.

Spring streams

The Antheringer Bach before entering the Salzachauen

The Antheringer Bach is the more northerly of the two source brooks of the Reitbach and rises at 496  m above sea level. A. in the Anthering village of Wurmassing near the settlement of the same name. In the upper reaches it forms a partly distinctive ditch and, after a downward gradient, flows through the center of Anthering. The stream is then crossed by the route of Lamprechtshausener Strasse and shortly afterwards by the Salzburg local railway ; Ultimately, immediately after entering the alluvial forest of the Salzach, it meets the Bruckbach at 403 meters above sea level. The Antheringer Bach flows in a south-westerly direction, its length is around 3.5 kilometers.

The Bruckbach rises, not far from the source of the Mattig , on the municipal boundary between Elixhausen and Anthering at 563  m above sea level. A. and continues to form this limit for the first almost 500 meters of his run. It flows then until the present on Elixhausen area Raggingersee and immediately after the the municipality Bergheim counting Lugingersee , which are both in the common conservation area Lugingersee ( LSG 08 are located). The Bruckbach then overcomes around 100 meters in altitude in the Königsgraben , flows through the southern Anthering district of Lehen and, after being crossed by the road and the railway like the Antheringer Bach, enters the alluvial forest of the Salzach. Shortly afterwards he meets the Antheringer Bach. The Bruckbach flows to the two small lakes in a south-westerly direction, then in a westerly direction and has a length of 5.8 kilometers.
